Perinatal
The perinatal period — encompassing pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenthood — brings deep physical, emotional, and relational changes. Whether becoming a parent through birth, adoption, or other paths, this time often stirs intense desires, fears, expectations, and inner conflicts.

At Lalangue Institute, we support those navigating these complexities. Alongside joy, many experience sadness, anxiety, guilt, ambivalence, or a deep sense of vulnerability — even when everything appears “fine.”

Social ideals around motherhood and caregiving can make it hard to voice what doesn’t match the expected narrative. Many parents feel ashamed or alone in their struggles.

We offer a space to speak without judgment, to explore what’s difficult to name. We also support carers facing perinatal loss — during pregnancy, birth, or after — with care and reflection.
This work recognises that caring for a baby also means caring for the caregiver. By listening to the parent's experience, we support emotional connection, trust, and the development of a meaningful bond.

Psychoanalytic support offers a way to hold and work through these experiences — making space for something new to emerge.

What We Can Help With

We support mums, dads and carers experiencing emotional challenges during the perinatal period, including baby blues, postpartum depression, anxiety, and complex emotional states that can arise during pregnancy, after birth, or in early parenthood.
Our work includes supporting those navigating life transitions such as adoption, perinatal loss, premature birth, or difficult medical experiences. We also offer thoughtful care for carers facing feelings of ambivalence, guilt, or inadequacy — including those that may go unspoken due to social pressures or unrealistic ideals of parenthood.
Whether the distress is mild or profound, we offer a space to speak, reflect, and make sense of what is unfolding
